haha, I just love a good meme. For me, a good meme whether in the form of a photo, video or gif-always has the power to turn a frown upside down. I love it. IT'S PURE GENIUS! It has been known between my family members to communicate via text etc purely via memes.
What exactly is a MEME I hear some of you ask? apparently according to Wikipedia- ''The word meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene as an attempt to explain the way cultural information spreads; internet memes are a subset of this general meme concept specific to the culture and environment of the internet''. Memes are generally a photo, Gif or video consisting of a mash-up of phrases and popular culture and subcultures which generally originate and spread through Usenet boards, social media such as 4chan etc. A really infectious way to propagate relatable experiences, political viewpoints or just downright ridiculousness-hence the term gone viral.
In an age of faceless communication where the subtle nuances of face to face interactions are totally lost, I find memes just have the ability to speak a thousand words and convey the perfect tone, meaning and intent in an online dialogue. So I have decided to spread the love and pay homage to the humble meme and give such imagery the time and effort of making them into a good old-fashioned pencil sketch. I know the aesthetic style of a meme is supposed to be rough but what can I say, I just wanted to draw something, and what better than to draw a funny thing?
So far I have chosen one of the most popular memes of Gene Wilder in the original 1971 Willy Wonka film. The meme is meant to convey a sarcastic or condescending tone, using Willy Wonka's facial expression. I shall aptly rename him meme wilder ? .
Next, we have good 'ole Donald Flump, how can I not? Trump is just a very easy person to laugh at, he has the best facial expressions ever! and of course, flump rhymes with trump, junk, punk,thunk,skunk,dunk.................
And finally Leonard Nimoy's Spock. I will admit I have seen a fair few episodes of Star trek and Spock's facial expression or lack there of is the perfect way to portray a certain disinterest.
There will be many more meme sketches to come so I will be sure to make a post.............. watch out for Salt Bea- the next one in line, I feel a sprinkling of dank memes will perk up anyone's day. And what better way to sign out ...... with a meme
